What Buying a 60 Amp Solar Charge Controller Taught Me About First Solar, Termite Stations, and Knowing My Limits

It started with an email from our plant manager: 'We need a 60 amp solar charge controller for the battery bank at the substation. Find one that won't make me regret it.' That was it. No part number. No budget. No urgency in the subject line, which, for a purchasing person, is always suspicious.

I manage administrative buying for a renewable energy asset management company. We operate utility-scale solar sites, including two plants built with First Solar thin-film modules.
